Astrology of Now: The Drums of Uranus-Pluto

The energies of the planets work together like an orchestra. Sometimes one section is louder, sometimes it's stately, sometimes it's raucous, sometimes there's harmony, sometimes there's not. There are themes and variations that weave in and out of time, repeating once a day, once a month, or once a year, or once every few centuries.

Sometimes one section is loud and sometimes it's all so soft that you can hardly hear it, but the music is always there, weaving it's way through time. Some themes are more powerful than others: the slow ones that build and stay a long time.

I think you can hear the drums of the Uranus-Pluto square, the brothers shock and awe at odds. It's getting louder now.

Together their entries into Aries (2011)  and Capricorn (2008) respectively have marked huge change in our world already. Now these two powerful, slow-moving outer planets are about to click into place in exact aspect on June 24. The music may get louder.

The square aspect (a right-angle), which they are making, is arguably the most challenging but also the most dynamic of them all. It's an aspect that brings pain but also evolution and action.

We've already been feeling this Uranus-Pluto square for some time, of course – rebellion, revolution, repression. And that's before it's become exact.

But I just wanted to point out to you that the aspect will be exact a total of SEVEN, yes, that is seven times. And I want to give you the dates and degrees.

Pluto is in Capricorn. Uranus is in Aries. Sometimes one of the planets is retrograde. Note the initial meeting is Rx and at the final farewell they are both moving forward.

This is important for all of us, but most especially those with planets and points in between 6° and 15° Aries and Capricorn, Libra and Cancer. And also those born in the 1960s with Uranus-Pluto conjunct are bound to feel the calling of the drums.

I've looked at the previous three occasions when the square occurred – 1820s, 1870s, 1930s – and none of those times did the planets align seven times. I'll be looking at this in more detail in future posts, but let's face it, we're going to be in this zone for a long time.

  1. I am a libra sun within those degrees mentioned above. What trends should we look for?

    1. The truthful answer to that is it's impossible to tell without knowing something about you and your circumstances and the rest of your chart. However, I would be wondering a lot about your sense of identity, you physical well-being - that is what are you doing to stay healthy and your partnerships.

  2. those with planets and points in between 6° and 15°- Capricorn.

That would be my Saturn, POF, Mercury, Ceres, DC and Cancer Asc too, of course. Well this sounds like a whole lot of fun...

  3. Ohh my Moon, my moon...
Fantastic drum duet. They playing with their eyes closed, blows my mind! I guess that might be trick some days, flow with it, feel it to find the core, the knot? untangle, melt it and then keep flowing.

    1. now, is it possible that it will manifest as healing? it seems that what was set off when these guys crossed my IC and Desc, and when Saturn conjuncted my moon is starting to heal now. Of course 7 times sounds, ahem, worthy of respect...

  4. Oh, isn't this just ducky. Pluto's reversing entirely in my 9th (I'm writing a book with him in it) and Uranus is dancing around in my 12th over the face (just over 1 degree) of my Moon. "The brothers shock and awe" (great phrase!) seem to be getting along about as well as my own brothers at the moment!

Transiting Mars is climbing over the laps of my natal Pluto-Uranus conjunction in the 5th, which doesn't make things smoother, either creatively or in my love life.

Transiting Eris is applying her distinctive F-U to my Sun in the 12th, too.

Jupiter is pushing through Algol to magnify natal True Node in Taurean 1st house ... I guess I'm REEEEEEAALLY supposed to take care of myself!

It's hard not to feel beset, but this too shall pass. But 7 times? Oh dear. I'm looking forward to the summer of 2015 already.

    1. Just to put that into a little more perspective. The last Uranus-Pluto square in the 1930 took just three passes before moving on. The universe really really wants us to know something.
